A Little Drive.

Sunday-cold again. We decided to take a little drive, so about one and a half hours later we rock up at a place called Sandy Point, a seaside village. The beach was fantastic but mightily cold - it certainly woke me up! On the way we stopped in a little town called Fish Creek for a cuppa and I spotted, well actually you couldn't miss, a huge art deco style pub. Unusually it had a big fish on the roof, as you do.
See the fish on the top left?

Wind through his hair at Sandy Point.
Nice and brisk.
Coming back from the beach we were fascinated by a particular tree. I guess the constant wind had just pushed it to grow this way.
Looks like it is trying to sneak out.
Finally we wound our way home through the lush farmland, home to a cosy warm heater and a good book.
Homeward bound Jeeves, homeward bound.

The Waiting Game

Another cold day. Sigh. We are halfway to making our vegie patch 100%  secure against break in,( read here:the local blackbirds). Hubby has put in crushed rock along half the paths between the beds, and put wooden barriers along the bottom of the chicken wiring. We have to get in more rock as with 5 beds there is quite alot of pathway. I don't want a repeat of the last planting fiasco- damn blackbirds!! So here goes our day:
1.
Oh look, look, its halfway there.

2.
Let's see, let's see.

3.
What the........!

4.
The crushed rock paths nearly finished. Barriers along the ground.

5.
Gratuitous photo of Soba.

6.
The weird spring weather has caused this azalea to go mad.
7.
My apple tree has started to blossom
8.
Ok, now make sure you have correct spelling. I'm not a supervisor for nothing!!

Funky Friday.

Well the good weather lasted ooh 2 days and now we are back to cold and rain, rain and more rain. So what does one do on such a miserable day? Waste time in a nice warm shopping centre!! Its funny, but since I shop for about 90% of my clothes at op-shops, wandering around the shopping centres with all the glitz and glamour does nothing for me. Even Hubby has in the past bought some fantastic suits from the op-shops for work and he leaves each morning for work looking a million dollars. Mind you, the more these people spend at glitzy shops, the more that gets recycled in the op-shops which is a win for me.

The other day I found these beauties in our local op-shops. I spotted them from across the room and thankfully there were no lovely elderly ladies in my path or I would have mowed them down, baby!!
I was in heaven when the next 2 things happened:
1. They were my size
2. Hubby said "Get them"
I didn't need to be told twice. They were all leather and the grand total of $6.00

Then in another op-shop, I found these, again all leather.
$4.00
So anyway, back to the glitzy shopping centre. I finally found these, on sale of course.

So excuse me while I polish my new acquisitions to the strains of Stray Cats. Wohoooooo GO Baby!!!!!

The Laughing ball of Gorgeousness

We went for a lovely drive the other day just to get out and about. The town we visited is quite small and we decided to go for a stroll around the various streets -basically because I love looking at old houses and gardens. We decided to cut across a block, and down a lane and then we spotted a Kookaburra just sitting on a fence, not in the least worried about 3 nattering humans walking towards him. Well, 2 nattering humans and 1 blithering human because she had spotted the bird and was in awe because she had never got that close before!
The kookaburra laugh always makes me smile and I think they are so cute. It tolerated me oohing and aaahing like a kid. Hubby rolled his eyes and kept walking. Finally I got too close and off  he flew but my day was made, and spent the rest of the walk grinning like an idiot!
Kookaburra.

Cat With No Name.

The other day I was just minding my own business and digging up more damn weeds from my garden. The weed fairy is on a vendetta to make my life a misery. I had this strange sensation that I was being watched, and sure enough, I turned around to confront two green orbs staring back at me. I don't know where this little cutie has come from,( though No.2 son reliably informs me that it is from "up the street"-helpful as always), but it has decided that I am the one.
Now the Cat With No Name, (CWNN), pops in every day for a cuddle, or should I say I have to stop what I'm doing and be scented, slurped, bitten and sat on. Aaaah life is good.

The Word Affair

As I have said previously, I have an all - consuming love affair with reading and books. All it takes is for me to pass a bookshop, and I'm in like Flynn. It very nearly takes a search and rescue operation to get me out of one. I swoon at second - hand book stores, pirouette at sales of new books and virtually tackle people who give books away for free. It's a love that is all encompassing. I even read sales dockets god-damnit!!! How sad is that?

Libraries are the ultimate for this pathetic book addict. I regularly come out with an armful of books on all sorts of subjects, however I must admit I am in to non-fiction mainly. Very rarely these days I will get to go to the state library, and just walking into it with the floors of  book laden shelves starts me drooling, oh wait a minute, thats from age!

Some light bedtime reading.

L'amour

Who said a way to a man's heart is through his stomach? Sure food does cause him to swoon but a sure fire way is:
To buy him a mower!!!! Mwahahahahaaaaaa.

Oh The Winds of Doom.

This past week we have had our fair share of land gales. Wind gusts of 100kms or more for 3 days. Every year we get a few days here and there of gales, but this year there were more than usual in one hit. We live on the upside of a hill, so you can usually hear the roar building up as it races towards the houses. Having 2 very large gum trees out the back, every time a land gale hits I worry. So I guess this will be the year that we finally remove them. I will miss them as they attract the most beautiful birds who play and create a general raucus. We will replant, but with more appropriate trees that don't constantly drop their limbs.

Hubby got to work after the worst of the land gales and found some damage.

On a brighter note, I finally caught Brandi for another photo.

Jackpot

Don't you just love recycling. Every Thursday I meet up with friends and every now and then we bring along various bits and pieces that we no longer wear, want, or someone else has given to us to pass on. We are all on the same page when it comes reducing, recycling and reusing. So I was over the moon when I spotted a pair of jeans in my size and a top which happened to be a grey/black colour- woohooooo. And they were virtually new......... I'm in heaven, and yes, I am cheap!!

Now Brandi and Ladybug will have something new to spread their hair all over - thats the cats, not the kids.

Rate Hike Blues.

Got my Council rates and electricity bills today. The Council rates are a nonsence. If I could sell my place at the price they say its valued, I'd be drooling and down at the Real Estate Agents ASAP.
Discussing the outrageous amounts we are expected to pay with Hubby and No.2 son, I said that we already live on the smell of an oily rag, infact we are down to its threads. So I suggested that I put a red light above my head and advertise-mature woman for rent!!
Silence.
No.2 son says "Mum, you know the idea is for the clients to pay you and not the other way around-don't you'?"
Sigh.

Meditation.

Fluey

It has been a long week. Caught some nasty bug and I knew I would be in for it. Everyone around me were falling like flies with the latest bug, and there was I, all cocky at having dodged this one too. I knew I should have kept my mouth shut. So this morning for the first time in days I woke up without a throbbing headache. Things can only look up and there it was this morning, as I fed the dogs, a georgeous full moon. I just hope the picture did it justice.

Early morning wonder
