Fishing mark 2.

What? You want me to keep walking?
Since last week turned out so lovely, we decided to try our luck again this weekend. This time I decided to take Baxter along as we could go exploring and leave Hubby to play with the fish. Well what a difference a week makes. Cold, so very cold, and after about half a hour of walking, Baxter decided he was not having any more of this walking business. You would be suprised just how strong a Dacshund can be when he wants to. The little darling planted his dainty little feet on the ground and refused to move.

Well I was not going to be upstaged by the little ratbag and gave him a long lecture on how this bracing weather was so good for his constitution and the scenery just splendid. Well, did it work? Lets just say that when Hubby returned to the car not long after,( he too was beaten by the cold), there I was in the car with Baxter asleep on my lap.

Yes yes, nice scenery

Monday, Monday.

Some weeding around the lemon tree.
6am start, hot porridge and regulation cup of brewed coffee. No.2 son off to school and hubby to work. And off we go.....well in short spurts with rest breaks every 15 min or so.

Backyard interloper.
Trying to enjoy the sunshine while it lasted only to hear barking and commotion at the back fence.
Of course Inspector Baxter was on the scene in no time and preceeded to add to the noise--sigh!
The Ladies couldn't care less.

And the perfect end to the evening.

At Last

Finally, the friday night weather report sounded promising for at least the first half of saturday. With the fishing gear, picnic rug and camera packed, off we went for a morning fish. We decided to go to the dam and driving there was lovely with the fog everywhere. I found a perfect spot under a tree and hubby was a contented man for the next two and a bit hours, being teased by the trout. A few fishermen had arrived much earlier accounting for the three or so 4wd with trailers. It was just heaven listening to the birds, the beautiful scenery and having absolutely nothing else to do but relax.

In a world where everything is on fast forward it is nice to have a place to go and just be. The mind needs it and the body needs it. Quiet time is a gift to ourselves and we should do it regularly. One particular waterbird decided to check us out and it was such a hoot to watch it paddle away at warp speed when I got a bit too close.

It seems that some fun was had the night before at the dam. A young guy had decided he wanted to fish at night but somehow managed to have his car slide and the front wheel fall off the edge of the lake. He and his friends turned up later in the morning, and as we left, they were going to winch it out.

Desperate to fish.

Well another Monday has rolled around and the house is all quiet as No.2 son has gone back to school and Hubby to work. The day is georgeous with the sun shining and warm enough to be able to sit outside with a cuppa watching the birds play in the trees. All through the two week holiday period, Hubby was desperate to go fishing but the weather was truly awful. Now he's back at work, the weather is improving. He hates his life sometimes.
All packed and nowhere to go.

Books, Books, Glorious Books.

Is there anything better on a Saturday morning than a good old book fair? It is like the old lolly shops-once in, you just are overwhelmed by the choice. It is also the ultimate in recycling whilst raising money for good causes. Just mention a book fair and I am sure I come the closest to swooning that is humanly possible. Amongst the treasures I picked up was a book given to a woman on her departure to Australia in 1883, complete with inscription and a photographic book depicting life in 1850's and early 1900's in America (I looove old photographs).  After three trips to the car and back, Hubby and I virtually floated out of the town hall.

They say the days of the book are numbered, but the books were moving fast and furious out the door. I do have a Tablet, but no matter how hard I try nothing beats curling up on the couch or in bed and reading a good book. The electronic form just doesn't do it for me.

Monday, Monday....

Now where I live it is the middle of winter. I don't particularly like the cold, but I must say the early mornings with the fog and frost are just beautiful. Poor Soba has decided that the majority of winter should be spent sleeping in his shed, while Baxter -well Baxter is just being Baxter. The cats have decided that the best winter sleeping spots are on us - literally. I have lost count of the number of times I have woken up during the night because of an ache caused by a heavy cat lump happily  dreaming on my stomach.

Beautiful Lake Narracan

Wild flowers near Blue Rock Dam

Magnificent outlook over Noojee
Nothing is better than rugging up and going bush walking or for a country drive. We are lucky enought to live in a beautiful part of Victoria where we are an hour away from bush-walking, skiing, breathtaking beaches-you name it, we are near it. Today, we decided to take a short drive. Three and half hours later one very happy Bonsaimum and Hubby decided that we had better head for home or No.2 son might decide to change the locks.
