Afghanistan Exhibition.

Yesterday Hubby and I decided to go and see the Afghanistan: Hidden Treasures Exhibition at the Melbourne Museum. It was quite an eye opener to see the history and the beauty of the artefacts on display. It was also disheartening to see the destruction of such history and beauty by years of War and the Taliban. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take photographs, but you can see pictures of the exhibition here: http://museumvictoria.com.au/melbournemuseum/discoverycentre/afghanistan/

However, I could take some shots of other displays and I was particularly taken by the Dinosaurs. It was a bit sad in a way as I remember going to the old museum as a child and it had heaps of displays etc. Then they built  a new museum. It is very nice but doesn't have that 'something' the old museum had.
Heading towards the Museum.

Magnificent Exhibition Building next to the Museum.

Beasties.

Some magnificent tapestries on display.

  1. I love the tapestries. Intricate and clever.

I'm often disappointed when a grand old building is replaced by something more modern. The new one is quite soulless until it's been used for a while and feels more intimate.
